Not true!!! My Great Uncle Wesley Wilson was
hung because of one.
There he was in the condemned cell at
Strangeways when the telegram to commute
the hanging came through.
Trouble was whoever typed it at the home
office had made a mistake. Instead of
'execution cancelled' it read 'execution candelled'.
And as a consequence he had a magnificent
candle lit send off. It was like Liberace's bedroom
during a half price rent boy night.
Even Albert Pierpoint had a tear in his eye.
